Dyadic expects that its technology development and proof-of-principle work in functional genomics will make it a significant player in many existing and future markets. Developments in gene therapy, small molecule therapeutics, vaccines, nutraceuticals, veterinary medicines, agriculture and other life sciences, fuel cells and biofuels, waste treatment and other environmental applications, water treatment, as well as new man-made “intelligent” materials for fabrics, represent some of the emerging technologies on the cusp between research and development and market reality. The electronics industry uses enzymes, such as catalase, for cleaning circuit boards, and has ongoing R&D projects for developing chips using biological molecules and microorganisms. Chemical companies are continually evaluating the possibilities of using enzymes as catalysts in high temperature, high pressure and extreme pH chemical processes.
